Plex Streaming Optimization

In most cases the default setting on players limit quality and cause more load on the server. When the quality is limited on the player the server has to “Transcode” the video into a lesser quality in order to play it. As you can imagine this puts a lot of load on the server because it has to do this in real time. The more and more players that do this the more load is put on the server and the less users it can handle simultaneously.

In order to help with server loading and be able to continue to provide Plex 24/7 there are a few things that you can do on your side to help!!!

Step 1: (Do a speedtest)

Do a speedtest to the server here
Once you have the Download number you can chose a quality in the next step.

Pro Tip: Do it a few times. Speeds can vary. How close or far you are from your router can change your results if you are using wifi. If your streaming device is connected directly to your modem then do the speedtest on a laptop or desktop that is connected directly to your modem if possible.

Step 2: (Select your player)

Select your player from the list below
If it is not listed you should be able to figure it out with one of the other guides.

Pro Tip: If you have multiple players do this on all of them!
